Active Acting
Active Acting uses the dramatic arts to spark creative thinking, to nurture self-acceptance and to learn to acknowledge everyone’s ideas, individuality and personal limitations. In this workshop students are fully engaged both physically and emotionally and are encouraged to participate without holding back, without judgment, with trust and an open heart. Inspiration is pulled from within each student and from others in the group using simple objects to create dynamic scenarios and interesting characters. Ultimately students feel free to express emotions using mutual respect as their foundation to explore their own creativity.
Roxanne Boulianne is a graduate of the Conservatoire d’art dramatique de Québec. She has performed in theatres in Quebec and across Canada. In 1993, she co-founded the theatre company “Théâtre Quatre Corps” for which she was nominated twice for her performances by the “Gala des Masques “. Roxanne’s television work includes the character Bagou in Cornemuse which she played for 5 years and earned her a “Gémeaux” nomination in the lead role category. She also played the beloved Sophie in Il était une fois dans l’trouble for over ten years. Most recently Roxanne has been sharing her love of the arts through her Active Acting workshop in elementary schools in Montreal and surrounding areas and has been teaching drama at l’école primaire Pierre Laporte.
Movement, Music and the Mind
Movement, Music and the Mind is a workshop for students from preschool to grade 6 that promotes movement and mindfulness through the arts. Music makes us want to move and increases blood flow in our brains. Studies have found that short bursts of musical training increase the blood flow to the left hemisphere of the brain (the side famous for language, logic and analytical thinking).
The objective of movement and mindfulness gives kids a greater chance to experience well-being in the classroom and carry it with them into the world. The musical activities in our workshop improve concentration, group well being (vital in a classroom) and reduce stress. Children will also experience the power of proper breath technique that creates calm and clarity at the same time.
Most importantly 30 minutes of fun can change the course of a child’s day all the while enriching their creative spirit, resulting in a happy more focused student in the classroom.
Each workshop is age adapted and gets kids moving and connecting to each other through body percussion, creative movement, boomwhackers and vocalization. Cool downs at the end of the workshops physically and mentally prepares them for their return to classwork.
