ToWhomItMayConcern,
I am a cycle three teacher at McCaig Elementary School and have been teaching for nineteen years. My class is an inclusive class which includes students with a variety of strengths, interests, challenges and needs. Please accept this letter of recommendation for Angélique Desjardins and Roxanne Boulianne and the outstanding workshops that were offered at McCaig Elementary School during the 2017-2018 school year.
As a teacher who greatly believes in the importance of appealing to all learning styles, as well as finding authentic ways to incorporate art and music into class lessons, I was thrilled to see my students engaged and focussed as they participated in Ms. Desjardin’s, Movement, Music and the Mind workshop. Ms. Desjardin worked with my students for an hour on body percussion activities. She taught them to focus on their breathing, movements, listening to others, and appreciating the music. The students enjoyed working together as a class to create a variety of beats and many of them commented on how it left them feeling calm and fresh. They mentioned that the activities helped to alleviate some of the stress that was weighing on them and we repeated some of the activities in class from time to time as the year progressed. Ms. Desjardin was an enthusiastic instructor with great energy which really brought out the students’ creativity and encouraged them to participate.
Ms. Boulianne led my students through her Active Acting workshop. The students appreciated having the opportunity to improvise. She made them feel safe and comfortable as she encouraged them to step out of their comfort zone and be free to express themselves. The students worked on a variety of acting activities which included acting out different feelings. It was interesting to see some of the shyer students come out of their shell. She was able to get one hundred percent participation. After seeing how much the students enjoyed the Active Acting activities, I tried to give them opportunities in class to share their creativity through short improvisation tasks as well. The students truly loved this incredible workshop and the creativity it inspired.
Please do not hesitate to contact me should you require any further information.
Thank you,
Vicki Fraser
